The Oscars are on Sunday, and as usual, Jimmy Kimmel will host a star-studded after-show special. Before then, however, Kimmel initiated a special Oscars edition of Lie Witness News, asking random people on the street specific questions about movies that don’t exist.

As usual, the interviewees lied through their teeth. The first batch of questions focused on non-existent movies, and people on the street responded affirmatively to questions about whether Tom Cruise was fierce in Little Man, Big Motorcycle (“Yes, very fierce”), whether Jennifer Lawrence was good in 19-Year-Old Mother of Four (“She’s always very unpredictable yet very moving”), and whether Channing Tatum was cute in Koala Cop (“He was super cute as a koala, but he’s always super cute, period”). Other questions made up segments of existing movies, but people still responded to queries about a cute dance scene at the end of The Revenant (“It was a nice light moment after everything that went on in the movie”) and CGI in Carol (“It was fun to have those little characters, I think it made it more entertaining”).

The Carol responder ended up summing up the entire thrust of the segment: “I think lying is the epitome of our nation.”
