See how Twitter reacted to Oscar nominations over time with interactive graphic

Nominations for the 2016 Academy Awards arrived at 8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, immediately snatching people’s attention —a lot of people’s attention, according to Twitter.

The social media platform shared an interactive graphic (Twitter Reverb) showing how the announcements rippled throughout conversations online. 

Tweets with the hashtag #OscarNoms peaked at 2,100 per minute at 8:28 a.m. ET and carried that rate to 8:51 a.m. ET, less than 10 minutes after the Best Picture nominees were announced.

There were some marquee moments from the nominees. Lady Gaga typed a thank you note on her typewriter and shared appreciation for her score for The Hunting Ground. It garnered almost 8,000 retweets as of posting.

After learning of her Best Actress nod, Golden Globe winner Brie Larson thanked the cast and crew of Room. Larson’s tweet got nearly 1,000 retweets as of this posting.
